Mariah Talley named John Hope Franklin Support Professional of the Year

Mariah Talley is the 2025-2026 John Hope Franklin Elementary Support Professional of the Year!

Mariah joined Team Tulsa in 2021 and works as the principal's secretary at the school. We asked her a few questions to learn more about her and her time in Tulsa Public Schools.

What led you to a career in education?

I have been working in education for many years. I started out as a student helper at an after-school daycare center in the fifth grade at Hawthorne Elementary, and it was there that I decided this was the career for me. I love working with children and the positive impact you can have on their lives. Their smiles and hugs truly capture your heart.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

What I enjoy most about my job are the relationships you form with everyone—from parents and grandparents to the scholars, as well as the amazing teachers and district staff. As the principal’s secretary, you encounter and build connections with many different people each day.

What is one thing you are passionate about outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, including both my relatives and my church family. This time keeps me grounded, connected to God, and positively impacts how I show up in my work.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

My grandmother previously worked in the same building where I currently serve. She spent many years teaching in TPS at Gilcrease and Sam Houston, and I am always touched when former students remember her and share stories of her impact. I often visit her former classroom as a way to stay connected to her legacy.
